portra 400
ISO 400 — high‑speed colour negative film.
Formats: 35mm, 120, 4×5, 8×10 — Portra is one of the few stocks still offered in all major formats.
Process: C‑41 — standard colour negative development.
Base: ESTAR thick base — 0.10 mm for 135 and 120 formats (Kodak spec).
Grain: Extremely fine — Kodak markets it as “the world’s finest‑grain 400‑speed colour negative film.”
Colour palette: Warm, natural skin tones — optimised for portrait, fashion, and natural‑light work.
Exposure latitude: Very wide — clean results from EI 100–800; overexposure tolerated extremely well.
Emulsion tech: T‑GRAIN + Vision‑film tech — same underlying technology as Kodak’s cinema stocks.
Release date: The modern Portra line (160 / 400 / 800) was introduced in 2010, replacing the older NC/VC versions.
